Meetings
Past Conferences
Every meeting the Society has held since 1990 — where it gathered, who presided, and the papers that were given.
Two meetings a year
A winter day, and a summer week
The Society meets twice each year. The winter meeting is a single day, often held online in recent years; the summer meeting is residential, running across several days at a university in the British Isles and hosted by the sitting President.
Durham, Cambridge, Oxford, Sheffield, Nottingham, Belfast — the summer meeting moves with the presidency, which is how a society of this size has kept its conversation going in person for more than a hundred years.

The record
Every meeting, a year to a card, most recent first. Open a meeting for its programme, the papers given at it and the abstracts the Society kept — or open a year for both of its meetings together.
About the record
The Society has met twice a year since 1917. This record runs back to 1990: for every meeting it gives the date, the venue and the presidency, and for most of them the programme as it ran and the papers as they were given.
Abstracts are kept from 1997 to 2020. Meetings between 1990 and 1996 and after 2020 are recorded by their titles of papers alone, and for a handful of years in the 2000s the exact days were not recorded. There was no summer meeting in 2020.
Programmes for meetings still to come are published nearer the time on the future meetings page. To offer a paper at one of them, see the call for papers.
